Description

The Alum stone is a salt (double aluminium and potassium sulphate), which appears in the form of a translucent, white and odourless crystal. It is used as after-shave thanks to its astringent properties or as deodorant thanks to its bactericidal properties, it indeed fights effectively against the bacteria which cause bad odours.

Originally, the alum stone is 100% natural and results from mines of Alunites (Syria), or of outcrops of surface: the rock is uncovered as it is the case in Egypt, Bohemia and Saxony, or on the volcanic grounds (region of Naples, Greece, Guadeloupe).

We do worry, for good reason, about aluminium salts (Chlorides or Chlorhydrates of aluminium) contained in numerous antiperspirant deodorants, made responsible for certain cancers. Fortunately, it would seem that natural alum stone is harmless, because the oxides and hydroxides of aluminium which it frees in contact with water are chemically very stable. They cannot react as they are with the skin and thus cannot liberate aluminium and cannot either penetrate into the skin because they are not soluble.

In conclusion, the risk of toxicity of the natural alum stone is completely insignificant, especially compared to the other sources of contamination by the aluminium. Thus you can take full advantage of natural alum stone benefits with a quiet mind !

Watch out ! There are also synthetic alum stones, which have the same appearance as the natural alum stone. They are made by chemical industry, from synthetic ammonium salt. Thus the potassium of the natural alum stone is replaced, in this case, by some ammonium.

The mention “Ammonium Alum” in the composition indicates a synthetic stone, while the mention “Potassium Alum” gives you the confidence that the stone is natural.

Directions for use :

 Moisten the alum stone and apply it once a day to clean skin to reduce perspiration odor

 Could also be used after-shaving

 Pay special attention to drying it and keeping it clean after each usage, given that the alum stone is soluble in the water.
